Job Description
The Office of Climate and Environment seeks an intern to develop a municipal-based Environmental Resource Inventory. Environmental Resource Inventories cover topics and data around land use, soils, geology, topography, climate, water resources, biological resources, plant and animal communities, waste, sustainability, and parks and open space. The Environmental Planning intern may be required to assist with additional environmental planning-related initiatives including assignments in support of climate change mitigation and adaptation projects, policy research, and web page development. Tasks may include data collection and synthesis, research and data interpretation, writing narrative and text, and document design.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the intern will be research and data collection, data analysis, and report writing with guidance from professional staff. The intern will also assist with project committee meetings, client communications, and other tasks, as needed.
Qualifications
- Interest in local environmental planning and resources, as well as regional planning issues in Greater Philadelphia.
- Ability to perform in-depth research independently.
- Ability to read, interpret, and display geographic and quantitative data.
- Ability to establish effective relationships with co-workers and stakeholder groups.
- Excellent writing skills and initiative are essential.
- Proficiency in MS Office XP Software Suite and Google Suite are required; GIS experience is a plus.
Availability
This position requires a commitment of up to 30 hours per week.
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply
Minimum Education and Training
Candidates must have completed at least two years of a college/university program, or be enrolled in a master's program, or an equivalent combination of job experience and training. Meaningful experience in environmental planning is considered equal to formal education.
