Applications Now Open for DVRPC UNH Sustainability Fellow

December 20, 2024

At DVRPC, the Fellow will assist the Office of Sustainable Energy on a project related to Thermal Energy Networks (TENs). This project will be a mix of research and data analysis (including GIS), and outreach and engagement activities, focused on identifying potential opportunities and approaches for creating efficient, low carbon building energy systems with TENs.

For summer 2025, DVRPC will be hosting a University of New Hampshire (UNH) Sustainability Fellow. The UNH Sustainability Fellowship pairs exceptional undergraduate students and post-baccalaureates (graduate students and recent graduates) from universities across the United States with municipal, educational, corporate, and nonprofit partners to work on transformative sustainability projects. Each summer, Fellows undertake challenging sustainability projects that are designed to create an immediate impact, offer an extraordinary learning experience, and foster meaningful collaboration. While working with their mentors and host organizations, Fellows are supported by their Fellowship peers as well as an active network of partner organizations, alumni, and the UNH team, as they emerge as the next generation of sustainability leaders.

At DVRPC, the Fellow will assist the Office of Sustainable Energy on a project related to Thermal Energy Networks (TENs). Thermal Energy Networks are neighborhood-scale systems that leverage an existing thermal energy resource, such as geothermal or waste heat from an existing building, to provide heating and cooling to multiple buildings. This project will be a mix of research and data analysis (including GIS), and outreach and engagement activities, focused on identifying potential opportunities and approaches for creating efficient, low carbon building energy systems with TENs.

This research aligns with the vision and goals laid out in the DVRPC Long-Range Plan, Connections 2050, for an equitable, resilient, and sustainable region that achieves net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. It also supports the implementation of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Statistical Area Priority Climate Action Plan. Learn more about this position at https://www.unh.edu/sustainability/sustainability-fellowships. Applications are due by February 9, 2025, at midnight.
